Hello!
Just a quick one this time, I’ve found a new area of the thing we like on Kompakt (one day, I’ll look at other labels, I promise!) : it is Kompakt Speicher, or Kompakt Extra, as they put it, confusingly, because Speicher is translated as “memory”.
There are 93 of these two or three track EPs out for your listening pleasure, with many, many artists represented :
3 Channels, Alex Millan, Ambivalent, Auntie Flo, Axel Bartsch, Broke, Burger Industries, Chymera, Danny Daze, Danzca, Datenzauber, Davidovitch, Dirk Leyers, DJ Koze, Dmitry Gren, Ferenc, Fractal, Freiland, Gebr. Teichmann, GTO, Gui Boratto, Heib, Heimermann, Hunter/Game, Intus, Jake Fairley, Jens Harke, Joachim Spieth, John Dahlbäck, Jürgen Paape, Justus Köhncke, Köhncke, Kölsch, Lorent Air, Magnet, Mathew Jonson And The Mole, Mathias Schaffhäuser, Maxime Dangles, Michael Mayer, Mike Ink, M Of M, Monaco Schranze, Motiivi:Tuntematon, MOTOR, Namito, Naum, Naum Gabo, Navid Tahernia, Nerk, Nick Höppner, Nicolas Stefan, Matzak, Niconé & Gunjah, Nightguy, Oxia, Pan, Patrice Bäumel, Perc, Peter Grummich, Quarks, Quince, Reinhard Voigt, Renato Ratier, Re.You, Richard Bartz, SCSI-9, Sebastien Bouchet, Sei A, Sog, Split Secs, Stardiver, Steadycam, Steve Bug, Steve Moore, St. Thomas, Superpitcher, The Modernist, The Orb, The Rice Twins, Thomas Gwosdz, Tom Peters, Tom Pooks, Tone, Toni Rios, Tricky Disco, Voigt & Voigt, Wassermann, Weichhold, Wighnomy Bros.
Speicher means memory, but it’s always bang up to date to me, so I wonder why – I did email to ask them, I’ll let you know what they say 🙂 The idea, I think, is to showcase new talent, and to get the old boys doing something very new, which is laudable indeed. And they are all on 12″ vinyl too. Here are some of the recent ones I like :
Speicher 93 : Kölsch : Kir
There’s no player for this, so head over to Kompakt Speicher 93 to hear it – it’s the second track, nice synth mangling and a solid rhythm keeping it going, nice and repetitive without being irritating (a mean feat, I can tell you).
Speicher 92 : Ambivalent : Micheal Mayer remix
Here Mayer does do a good remix – reducing the essentials down to a hypnotic beat, with just enough added to keep you interested, nice minimalism here.
Speicher 89 : Patrice Bäumel : Surge
Remember Patrice : ” … been on a mission to create and share music that spreads love, positivity and happiness…“? The second track on this EP is on Kompakt Total CD2, the first one pretty useful too, nice ups and downs, with a lovely vocal sample over the top, intriguing.
Speicher 88 : 3 Channels
“3 Channels” aka “Catz N’ Dogz” are Polish duo Grzegorz Demiañczuk and Wojciech Tarañczuk who seem to like cheesy techno, making a bit of fun out of the worthiness of it all, and I like that! This EP seems to go against that, because it is a well crafted slice of ‘house’ – minimal of course, really simple and they don’t shy away from messing with the timbre of the main beat – dangerous stuff! Also playing with the stereo/spatial soundscape too. Nice!
Speicher 85 : Patrice Bäumel : Low Rider
Another one from the positivity and happiness broker, here he’s doing great things with the beat, no four to the floor thing going here – but dancable nonetheless. In, out up and down, but always back to the intricate rhythm he’s carefully got going, sweet.
Speicher 82 : Voigt & Voigt : Supertrip
That would be Kompakt founderlings Wolfgang and Reinhart Voigt doing their thing together – I like the simplicity of this second track rather than the first (b-side?), which glides along seemingly to infinity, I could listen to this on a loop for quite a while.
So, there’s a few tasters, check out the other EPs in this Kompakt special series, you won’t be disappointed! Get them from :

Hey Andy,
I really enjoyed your post on kompakt speicher! There were a few of those tracks that I could listen to on a loop myself. I really like how you have the record on your site and it plays the song clearly!
I think it’s awesome that there’s music still being created today and being put on those vinyl records! Nowadays it’s either CDs or digital download. Big ups to those in the music industry that are still doing that!
All in all, I must say your site is very creative, clean, and very interesting! Keep up the great work!

Hi Steve,
Well, thank you for your kind words.
It’s a lot of fun finding these tracks to post, especially as they’re off-the-wall and (really, really) not chart material, so big-up indeed.
Thank you again for your comment, nice to know my site is clean at least 🙂
CheersO!

Some sweet stuff going on here Andy.
I see what you mean about the second track of Supertrip – hypnotic and I could listen to for a long while. Favourites? I like 3 Channels (Alphabetti Spaghetti) and Patrice Baumel’s Lowrider.
Thanks for compiling this – you’re going to make a fan out of me.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for listening to this stuff, nice to know i have a fan! Yes, the 3 Channels one go to me too, quite bonkers in its beat and minimalism, so perfect then. And Patrice (positivity and happiness)’s track is fine too.
Thanks or your comment, keep returning for more of This Sort Of Thing!
CheersO,
